Jasmine-by-the-Sea is a plantation-style Garden Villa located just to the west of the coastal village of Carrabelle on the Gulf of Mexico. We consider our region to be in "The Other Florida"*, the Florida of the north and west, away from the hustle and bustle of cities and typical overdeveloped tourist areas - another country altogether ... some call this region The Forgotten Coast.
*“The Other Florida” is the title of a memoir written in 1978 by the naturalist and biographer Gloria Jahoda. A sophisticated Northerner by birth and upbringing, Mrs. Jahoda came to live in Tallassee in the 1960’s. She found herself in a strange new world which she was determined to understand and which, as she came to know more about it, learned to care for deeply. Her book, one of many which we have in our library for guest use, is the story of a personal journey into unknown territory.
We hope that our guests will be captivated by the beauty of the pine forests, the long stretches of empty white-sand beaches, the sounds and scents of the country, and the ever-changing Gulf. You will come to appreciate this tranquil and magical region and be renewed by the experience.
The Jasmine-by-the-Sea villa offers travelers gracious and inviting accommodations for up to six (6) adults. The upscale garden residence is unique. A private entrance leads to more than 2000 square feet of living area, with all guest rooms on the ground-floor level of the villa (free of steps). The villa is surrounded by flower gardens and all bedrooms face the Gulf of Mexico. The second floor of the villa remains private, thus providing the garden-floor guests with the peace and quiet of a welcomed respite. The guest interiors are beautifully appointed – great effort has been taken to provide an ambience of luxury and comfort, far removed from the monotonous vacation rental or timeshare one typically finds today.
The guest residence, remodeled in 2006, retains the warmth and ambiance of a family country home. Each of the three bedrooms is uniquely decorated with antiques, comfortable furnishings, appealing textiles and original artwork. The three bedroom residence features a King size bed in the Master Bedroom, a Queen size in the second, and two Twin beds in the third. The residence includes two bathrooms and a washer and dryer. A large eat-in kitchen seating six that is fully equipped with modern appliances will comfortably accommodate all your cooking and living needs.
French doors open off the kitchen and living room to a spacious, 300 square-foot tiled and Jasmine-covered Pavilion revealing sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico.
Jasmine-by-the-Sea has its own private beach on the Gulf, located about 220 feet in front of the villa. The gardens are planted with a variety of plants, native trees and shrubs, including magnolia grandiflora, live oaks, palms, oleanders, wisterias and a variety of fragrant jasmines which surround the house. The almost million-acre Apalachicola National Forest is located just north of the property. Numerous species of birds and butterflies abound.
Guests can enjoy bathing (and fishing!) in the warm Gulf waters from the villa’s beach, or enjoy the peace and secluded tranquility offered by the west garden Pavilion overlooking the Gulf. The Pavilion is furnished with a large table, umbrellas, seating for six guests, and a charcoal barbecue grill. A hammock and swing located in the south garden facing the Gulf, provide additional opportunities for sharing dreams, or for enjoyment of a few moments in solitary contemplation.
Imagine staying in a villa overlooking the Gulf of Mexico – listening to birdsong as you drink your morning coffee in the gardens, sipping an aperitivo at dusk under a gazebo smothered in jasmine, dining al fresco and lingering over a meal grilled over mesquite-wood coals.
That’s a vacation, an idyll, an oasis of tranquility.
